Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
[I fancy this bio for Mori]
Actor. (b. Apr. 5, 1941, Detroit.) Wide-eyed, baby-faced character actor and occasional leading man with a diverse array of skilled performances to his credit.
He uses his delicate, high-pitched voice very skillfully, effectively registering menace on those infrequent occasions he essays villainous roles.
A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Moriarty acted in the New York Shakespeare Festival at 22, and subsequently appeared in many stage productions and TV shows, winning a Tony in 1974 (for "Find Your Way Home") and Emmys in 1974 (for his role inThe Glass Menagerie and 1978 (for his chilling work as a Nazi in the miniseries "Holocaust"). His early screen work includes memorable turns in two 1973 films, Bang the Drum Slowly (as the baseball pitcher who befriends and protects simple-minded Robert De Niro) and The Last Detail (as Jack Nicholson's duty officer), and a lead in Report to the Commissioner (1975).
Although he worked steadily, Moriarty seldom played leads until the 1980s, when he starred in Q (1982) for filmmaker Larry Cohen (who also cast him in 1985's The Stuff and 1987's It's Alive III: Island of the Alive
Other films: include Hickey & Boggs (1972),Who'll Stop the Rain (1978),Pale Rider (1985), Blood Link (also 1985, as twin brothers),Troll (1986), The Hanoi Hilton, Dark Tower (both 1987), andFull Fathom Five (1990). More people may know him from his costarring role in the TV series "Law and Order" (1990-94) than from his starring films. He is also an accomplished jazz pianist and singer.
